December 2010:
I made a complete custom frame for a 1940 Buick Special Hot Rod. Owner
supplied a 1980 Trans Am front sub frame and a 1986 Grand National rear axle
and frame clip. Side rails were made from 2x6 rectangular mild steel
2 inch square tube crossmembers were installed in the center and at the rear. Body mount tabs
were welded to the frame rails in the stock locations.
The frame was designed for a Buick 350 engine and turbo 200R4 that was set back 14 inches. A
pocket was created in the cradle for oil filter clearance. All stock control arms were used for OEM
type ride quality and easily replaceable parts.
Owner is now cleaning and painting the frame and preparing to have
the body work started.
